Cullompton’s Future

Cullompton’s Future

Cully is on the move — a returning railway station, thousands of new homes and a relief road for the High Street. Here’s what’s shaping the town’s next chapter.

Cullompton is one of the fastest-changing towns in Mid Devon. Several major projects will transform how we live, travel and work here over the coming years. This page brings the big ones together, with links to the official sources so you can follow the detail.

A returning railway station

Cullompton lost its station in 1964 — but it’s coming back. Cullompton and neighbouring Wellington are being reconnected to the mainline between Exeter and Taunton, with government funding now confirmed. A major boost for commuters and the local economy. Latest from Mid Devon →

Culm Garden Village

To the east of the town, a new garden community is planned — around 2,600 new homes over the coming decades, with schools, workplaces, green space and community facilities designed to connect with the existing town. culmgardenvillage.co.uk →

Town Centre Relief Road

Funding has been secured for a relief road to take through-traffic off Fore Street — easing congestion, improving air quality and making the historic High Street a nicer place to be. Completion is currently forecast for around 2028.

Town Centre Masterplan

Mid Devon and partners are developing a long-term regeneration plan for the town centre, making the most of Cullompton’s heritage as its population grows. Town centre plans →
